We had the opportunity to interview literacy thought leaders Carol Jago and MaryEllen Vogt (who was newly inducted into the ILA Hall of Fame) during the ILA 2017 conference on Saturday. The two shared their favorite conference takeaways and then told us one piece of advice they would give to teachers getting ready for back to school.
The short versions?
From Carol: Read more!
From MaryEllen: Make sure to do some reflection and planning to implement what you learned at ILA in your classroom this fall.
Our final question drew some wise responses from these veteran educators: “How do we get teachers to move from teaching reading to teaching a love of reading?”
