Project: Draw a Job
- Think of a job you know that is not in the text.
- Draw a picture of someone doing that job.
- Write a sentence using this frame: See me _____. My job is to _____.
Hands-On Activity: Guess the Job
- Take turns acting out jobs from the text.
- Choose a job from the text and silently act it out.
- Have your partner guess which job you are acting out.
- Switch roles until you have acted out all the jobs in the text.

Vocabulary & Language: Make Action Word Flashcards
- Write each action word from the text on an index card.
- On the other side of the card, draw a picture of the action word.
- Show the picture side of the cards to a partner so he or she can guess the action words.
Response Writing: Ask Questions About a Job
- Think of a job you would like to know more about.
- Use the question words who, what, where, when, and why to write or dictate questions you can ask someone who does this job. For example: Who do you ____? What ____ do you ____? Where do you ____? When do you ____? Why ____?

Hands-On Activity: Practice “Thank You” Sayings
- Practice saying thank you by adding a word or phrase to the expression or using different words. For example, you could say “Thanks a million!” or “Thanks. You’re the greatest!”
- Complete phrases like these: “Thanks. That’s _____.” “Thanks so much. You _____.” “You’re _____. Thanks a bunch.”
- Share your thank you sayings.
Project: Make a Give and Take Book
- Imagine you are cleaning out your closet. You will need to give away one toy. You will take a favorite toy to keep.
- Draw a picture of what you will take and what you will give away.
- Make a cover for your book that includes the words Give and Take.

- Draw a map of your community or neighborhood. Label the different jobs you see people doing. How else do you see people helping?

Family SupportHave children tell a story about themselves or someone they know being a helper. Encourage them with prompts, such as “And then what happened?” They can also act out the story with costumes and props. Discuss how helping others can make a community strong. |
