Into AGA is a comprehensive, student-centered mathematics program for Grades 8–12 covering Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. The program integrates assessment, professional learning, quality core content, and differentiated tools to support all learners, using an approach where data and lesson design allow teachers to be more efficient and effective. Into AGA has been rated by EdReports™ as Meets Expectations for alignment to college and career-ready standards.
Into AGA organizes instruction across units, modules, and lessons, with each level connecting to real-world and career contexts. Every lesson follows a consistent sequence: Spark Your Learning guides whole-class exploration of a problem; Learn Together facilitates Build Understanding and Step It Out tasks; Check Understanding provides a quick formative checkpoint; Differentiation Options offer leveled resources; and Wrap-Up brings the class together using Exit Tickets, journal writing, or “I Can” self-assessment. This predictable structure allows students to engage deeply with content while giving teachers a reliable framework for delivering standards-aligned instruction each day.
Lessons in Into AGA form a coherent sequence, designed to build a foundation of conceptual understanding before teaching procedures, with an emphasis on connections between concepts and skills and opportunities for application found throughout the program. Spark Your Learning tasks promote conceptual understanding through low-floor, high-ceiling problems; Build Understanding tasks guide students through whole-class instruction; and Step It Out tasks build upon students’ conceptual understanding to promote procedural fluency. On Your Own tasks then foster procedural fluency and automaticity, and the Journal and Practice Workbook provides additional targeted exercises to reinforce concepts and build student confidence.
Building reasoning and strategic problem-solving skills and providing ongoing opportunities for application are central aims of Into AGA. The program develops understanding through clearly identified, carefully sequenced progressions and big ideas, embedding learning in students’ background knowledge, STEM connections, and real-world contexts. Into AGA also offers Spies and Analysts, a mathematical modeling feature that provides opportunities to problem-solve in scenarios aligned with real life, when the information needed to solve a problem isn’t clear or readily provided. This approach moves students beyond procedural recall toward the kind of adaptive mathematical thinking needed for advanced coursework and real-world decision-making.
Into AGA embeds high-quality student discourse at every turn to develop collaboration and communication skills. A careful progression of learning tasks blends teacher-facilitated instruction, mathematical discourse, and productive perseverance to support students at all proficiency levels. Talk Moves strategies are integrated into the Student Edition, Teacher Edition, and professional learning classroom videos to help teachers bring meaningful discourse into their classrooms. Features such as Turn and Talk, Put It in Writing, and Connect to Vocabulary give students structured opportunities to speak, listen, and write about mathematical ideas throughout each lesson.
Into AGA connects mathematics to real-world contexts through STEM tasks that allow students to use prior knowledge and engage in discourse with peers to solve a problem based on the career presented. Spies and Analysts Module Performance Tasks are collaborative practice or assessment activities aligned to the unit’s Performance Expectations, encouraging teamwork and deeper learning within open-ended, real-world scenarios. Each Unit Opener highlights real-world and career connections, helping students understand how the mathematics they are learning applies beyond the classroom.
Into AGA provides differentiation options that support growth for every student through resources based on individual and data-driven needs, and the program offers a variety of assessments, item-level data analyses, and teaching resources to address student progress in real time. Differentiation Options in every lesson include Small Group, Independent Practice, and Collaborative Work, and teachers can use Check Understanding checkpoints to form flexible groups and provide targeted support. Resources for all levels of intervention are included, such as small-group instruction, Math on the Spot videos, and RTI resources for Tiers 2 and 3, all hyperlinked within the digital Teacher Edition for quick access.
Into AGA supports multilingual learners through eight Mathematical Language Routines (MLRs) designed to amplify, assess, and develop students’ language skills and usage, providing structured and adaptable opportunities for students at all proficiency levels to listen, speak, read, and write about mathematical situations. The program also offers WIDA-aligned resources specifically for English learners, including Differentiated Language Routines and Key Vocabulary in the Teacher’s Edition, Point-of-Use Multilingual Differentiation, and Multilingual Glossaries. For Algebra 1, a full range of Spanish-language resources is available, including the Student Edition, Journal and Practice Workbook, Teacher’s Edition, and Assessment Guide with Module Tests, ensuring Spanish-speaking students and their families have broad access to core instructional materials in their home language.
Into AGA makes it easy for teachers to choose the instructional delivery—print, digital, or a combination of both—that suits their classroom. Student resources include the Student Edition, Journal and Practice Workbook, Getting Ready for High-Stakes Assessment, and HMH Guides to Success in Math for the SAT® and ACT®. Teacher resources include the Teacher Edition, Planning and Pacing Guide, Quick Start Program Guide, Solutions Manual, Assessment Guide with Module Tests, Differentiated Instruction Masters, and RTI Tier 2 and Tier 3 Intervention materials. Family and caregiver resources include Multilingual School-Home Letters, Math on the Spot Video Tutorials, a Multilingual Glossary, and access to Family Room on the HMH Ed platform.
Into AGA provides a balanced assessment system, including diagnostic, formative, and summative measures, designed to give teachers and students actionable feedback throughout the year to monitor and accelerate student progress. Each module begins with an Are You Ready? diagnostic assessment that determines student readiness and informs grouping and resource recommendations. Formative assessment is embedded throughout each lesson through tools such as Check Understanding checkpoints, Turn and Talk, Exit Tickets, and Problem of the Day.
Into AGA is delivered through HMH Ed, which provides teachers with robust support resources in one place, including classroom videos, Teacher’s Corner live online events, effective teaching strategies, ideas for questioning, and point-of-use assistance.
