The System 44 Classroom

A classroom designed to engage

System 44 was created to help your child master foundational reading and move on to grade-level success. The whole class works together, or in a small group, practicing phonics and reading skills with the teacher. Students also work on the System 44 Software at a computer station. Students also sit and read silently in a comfortable library area.

The System 44 Instructional Model

Designed to work on its own or with READ 180

Your student’s System 44 class will meet daily for about 55–60 minutes. Students spend about 20 minutes a day on the Software. They will spend another 20 minutes alternating between small-group instruction and modeled/independent reading. The program can be used effectively during a regular class period, in a resource room, or in after- and summer-school programs

Students work independently on the Software. They receive individualized instruction and skills practice.

Small-Group Instruction

The teacher works closely with small groups of students to meet their individual needs. Working in a small group helps students build foundational reading skills and relationships with the teacher. Students become confident, capable readers as they practice reading texts at their level.

Your System 44 student might share a classroom with READ 180 students. System 44 and READ 180 students need different levels of support to read independently at grade-level. System 44 students will practice foundational reading skills. These students will form groups, based on the instruction that they need. They travel together to work in small-group, use the System 44 or READ 180 Software, and read System 44 or READ 180 Paperbacks and Audiobooks.
