Singapore Math: A Visual Approach to Problem Solving

Andy Clark

The development of successful problem-solving skills is a key part of mathematics learning. Through visualization and the model drawing approach, commonly used in Singapore Math, students gain the skills they need to tackle increasingly complicated word problems from one grade level to the next. In this edWebinar, participants will:

  • Understand the effectiveness of visual models and visualization to develop conceptual understanding and number sense
  • Explore and use the Singapore Math model drawing approach to solve routine and non-routine word problems
  • Be able to use visual models to develop quantitative reasoning that leads to algebraic generalization
  • Enable more students to access complex problems using visualization and visual models
