Implementation Matters: Systems for Success: A Descriptive Study of READ 180 in Urban Middle Schools

American Institutes for Research (AIR) and Berkeley Policy Associates (BPA), conducted a one-year qualitative investigation of READ 180 in partnership with the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS). This implementation study examined the conditions and practices surrounding high-quality effective implementation of READ 180 at the classroom, school, and district levels. The goal of the study was to help educators and policymakers better understand the conditions that contribute to the effective implementation of focused, intensive interventions for struggling readers, especially in large urban districts striving to address the needs of struggling middle-school readers on a large scale. Report findings detail lessons learned and recommendations for successful implementation.
