Dr. Tyler Matta is Vice President of Learning Science Engineering at NWEA, where he leads a multidisciplinary team of learning scientists and AI engineers building products that strengthen teachers' instructional planning. He began his career as a middle school art teacher in Washington Heights, New York City, and has spent over a decade in EdTech building adaptive learning, adaptive testing, and game-based assessment products. Dr. Matta has held faculty appointments at the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and the University of Oslo. He holds a PhD in educational policy and methodology from the University of Oregon, and his research has been published in peer-reviewed journals across computational statistics, cognitive neuroscience, and education policy.
