Houghton Mifflin Harcourt World Languages Vocabulary Apps Allow Students to Practice Spanish and French Skills Anytime, Anywhere

BOSTON -- Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) announced today that its new language apps, HMH Spanish Vocabulary and HMH French Vocabulary, are now available for free download on the App Store℠.  The full versions of the apps offer 1,500 flashcards per language and can be used in tandem with any Spanish or French series by students of all ages, from beginner to advanced levels.

Created for use with celebrated language programs ¡Avancemos!, Bien dit! and Discovering French Today!, the mobile study tools feature native speaker pronunciation, audio slow-down and multiple choice quizzes that assess learned materials.  They also include a searchable phrase book that provides quick references in both English and the target language.

Powered by Transparent Language, a leading provider of best-practice language learning software, the apps employ a proven learning system that rotates cards according to students’ progress, reinforcing terms that have not yet been mastered and encouraging excellent recall and long-term retention.  Users can also track their progress with statistics generated by the app. Two complementary products, HMH Spanish Vocabulary Online and HMH French Vocabulary Online, launching this month, will give teachers the opportunity to create their own flashcards for use on the apps.

“We strive to inspire a lifelong commitment to education at HMH, and are thrilled that these mobile resources clearly support this goal, making it simple and fun for language-learners at any level to discover new skills and expand upon their growing knowledge,” said Bethlam Forsa, Executive Vice President, Global Product and Content Development, HMH.   “Today’s students are already fluent in technology, and the apps provide flexibility and encourage active engagement with essential vocabulary beyond the classroom.”

The basic versions of HMH Spanish Vocabulary and HMH French Vocabulary are available for free download.  Users can purchase additional content for $7.99 per level.

¡Avancemos!, Bien dit! and Discovering French Today! are part of the Holt McDougal World Languages series from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.  The programs blend culture, relevant instruction and innovative technology, enabling and motivating students to succeed and thrive in a multilingual world.  To learn more, please visit
