Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to Showcase Lineup of Innovative Products and Services at National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Meeting

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) will be showcasing a suite of new and existing instructional and professional development offerings — including the nation's first Common Core State Standards transition series for mathematics — at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Annual Meeting and Conference at the Indianapolis Convention Center through Saturday, April 16.

The Company's featured products and services will include:

On Core Mathematics

On Core is a first-of-its-kind supplemental series that helps teachers and students navigate the transition to a Common Core State Standards curriculum. The series educates and equips teachers by providing complete instruction for all Common Core State Standards including the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Most notably, On Core's low-cost model makes it an ideal solution for schools and districts with limited budgets.

STEM Solutions

As the White House and U.S. Department of Education have highlighted through such programs as Race to the Top, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education is critical to the future of U.S. students and the nation. At NCSM/NCTM, HMH will be announcing a breakthrough partnership with U.S. Satellite Laboratory, Inc. to provide online STEM professional development that results in STEM certification – the only STEM certification endorsed by NASA and Teachers College. HMH will also be showcasing the rest of its comprehensive STEM solution, including STEM curricula, which not only integrates STEM units and activities into existing math and science curricula, but also offers video-based STEM projects that can be used independently, such as the medically focused units that are being co-developed with Children’s Hospital, Boston. In addition, because Indiana is playing host to NCSM/NCTM, HMH will showcase its partnership with Museum of Science, Boston, to distribute Engineering is Elementary, a K-5 STEM curriculum, in Indiana.

“There has long been a need to prepare students for tomorrow’s economy, and HMH has been leading the way in developing improved STEM education,” said Mike Lavelle, President of the Education Group, HMH. “Administrators and educators from around the country rely on HMH’s unique capabilities to implement product solutions and professional development to motivate a new generation of science and mathematics learners.”

GO Math!

GO Math! is the first K–6 elementary math program specifically developed to support the Common Core State Standards. GO Math! provides teachers with unparalleled support as they transition to a rigorous Common Core-based curriculum, beginning with lessons that feature problem-based situations and progressing toward more abstract problems. The program's design allows teachers to easily create the necessary environments for teaching the Common Core State Standards in depth, without having to develop new materials.

GO Math!'s prestigious author team comprises mathematics educators and district personnel whose diverse state and national perspectives and consummate experience make GO Math! not only mathematically sound, but accessible to a wide range of learners. GO Math!'s authors  have also held leadership positions within NCTM.

"Sixty million students worldwide depend on HMH math products for their academic success, and the offerings we're featuring at this year's NCSM and NCTM annual meetings showcase exactly why," said Lavelle. "Our instructional solutions are engaging, focused and individualized, and our professional development resources prepare teachers to administer not only effective instruction, but effective assessments to empower students."
