Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Optimizes K-12 Content Delivery for Windows 8

BOSTON – Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) today announced a strategic collaboration with Microsoft Corp. to optimize HMH’s core K-12 education content for the Windows 8 operating system, providing an even greater level of choice and access to students and educators across a broad range of devices.

HMH will work with Microsoft to develop a new eTextbook reader application for Windows 8 in advance of the new 2014 school year.  The app, which will provide access to core HMH K-12 content, will become available to the increasing number of school districts using Windows 8, including Miami-Dade County Public Schools, which recently announced its intention to introduce 100,000 Windows 8 devices by August 2015 as part of a district 1-to-1 initiative.

“We share a commitment with Microsoft to broaden access to high-quality digital learning resources for students and teachers,” said Steve Gilmer, Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Alliances, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. “By working with Microsoft to bring our quality content to Windows 8, we can provide engaging, user-friendly content in a native experience.”

”As more schools move toward a digital environment, engaging and immersive content is even more crucial for student learning,” said Andrew Ko, general manager, Partners in Learning, Microsoft. “This new eTextbook reader app from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will offer educators and students a powerful tool to both inspire and impact learning for success.”

The HMH Readers app, designed to reinforce reading fluency and comprehension in grades K-6, and Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math are currently available for the Windows 8 system, with a new American Heritage Dictionary app also in development for summer 2014.
