Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Launches Engaging New Video Tutorial Series in the App Store

BOSTON -- Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) has launched Math on the Spot, a collection of entertaining video tutorials for the iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch®, aimed at math students aged 10-17 years old.  Featuring personal instruction from award-winning math professor Ed Burger, Math on the Spot is now available in the App StoreSM for a special promotional price of $0.99 per bundle of video content.

HMH Math on the Spot consists of a library of 1,400 videos covering more than 100 topics from Grade 6 to Algebra 2, including geometry, numbers and operations, algebra, statistics and probability.  The tailored instructional content is arranged in easy-to-access bundles and categorized according to grade-level and subject matter.  Aligned to Common Core State Standards for mathematics, each concise tutorial provides key learning objectives, practical examples and simple step-by-step written explanations to support key math topics – from linear equations to the Pythagorean Theorem.

"HMH Math on the Spot allows students to call on a math tutor at any time of day – whether they’re at home, in the classroom, or on the go. Each tutorial speaks to a specific subject area, so students can access the bundle of video content that helps them grasp the math topic they find most challenging,” said Bethlam Forsa, Executive Vice President for Global Product Development at HMH. “It’s also a useful resource for parents who want to support their kids with their schoolwork and need a bite-sized refresher on the basic math principles.”

HMH Math On the Spot video tutorials feature Dr. Edward Burger, whose engaging teaching style has earned him numerous awards, including a place in The Huffington Post’s ‘2010 Game Changers’,  Reader's Digest’s ‘100 Best of America’ and the Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching.

Dr. Burger commented: “With this new app, HMH and I are once again redefining best practices for how individuals learn and grow in today's technological world. We've created these videos to offer a rich, yet clear, understanding of math concepts in a lively and entertaining way.  I'm delighted that they have already helped millions of students from around the globe.”

Additional features include English and Spanish audio narration and closed-captioning (Grades 6, 7, 8, and Algebra 1). Students can also create their own personalized learning environment by building their own playlist library and choosing favorites.   Math on the Spot is available for all Apple iOS devices including iPad, iPhone and iPod touch®.
