SkillsTutor to Exhibit Common Core State Standards-Aligned Math Fact Fluency at Florida Educational Technology Conference

ORLANDO, Fla. — February 1, 2011 — SkillsTutor, a division of global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH), today unveiled a Common Core State Standards aligned version of its acclaimed Math Fact Fluency program at the Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC), taking place through Thursday, February 3 at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center. Math Fact Fluency is a research-proven, all–digital program that meets Common Core State Standards and helps students achieve and sustain mathematics success by mastering basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.

"Over the last two years, Math Fact Fluency has provided students, teachers and parents an efficient and effective solution to math fact practice," said Adam Hall, SkillsTutor President. "The program replaces fingers and flashcards with innovative technology, individualized instruction and engaging practice opportunities to lead students from procedural understanding to declarative knowledge of critical math facts."

Aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics' (NCTM) Curriculum Focal Points and the findings of the National Math Panel, Math Fact Fluency engages students with authentic real-world mathematics scenarios and maintains their motivation through gradual skill progression and frequent practice opportunities. A particularly captivating program feature is the personalized avatar for which students can select facial features, clothing and accessories before initiating their first lesson.

With more than 350 activities, Math Fact Fluency includes a variety of assessment tools and reporting features to help teachers individualize each students' learning experience by diagnosing strengths and weaknesses, assigning personalized activities and monitoring achievement at frequent intervals. In addition, SkillsTutor provides superior professional development that includes product coaching and data analysis to ensure effective implementation and student success.

"Basic concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are the foundation for the more complex procedures students encounter later on in their academic careers," said Hall. "By lessening their cognitive load through mastery of these fundamental skills, Math Fact Fluency's research-proven method prepares students for long-term mathematics success in the classroom and beyond."
