Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Wiley Forge Exclusive Partnership to Expand Access to Advanced Placement® Materials

HMH to be exclusive K-12 distributor of Wiley’s Advanced Placement® catalog, enhancing its core offerings and supporting college and career readiness for more students

BOSTON – Learning company Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (NASDAQ:HMHC) today announced that it has entered into a partnership with John Wiley and Sons, Inc. (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb), a global leader in research and education, to become the exclusive distributor of its Advanced Placement® (AP®), honors and electives catalog in the K-12 market. The addition of Wiley’s AP and electives portfolio further enhances and extends HMH’s core programs and services, providing customers with an integrated set of offerings that supports college readiness.

Access to and enrollment in AP coursework has grown rapidly over the last decade—nearly 20 percent of high school students are enrolled in at least one course. Increasingly, schools are working to build holistic AP programs that encourage all students, not only traditionally high performers, to reach up and into the AP space, setting learners of all backgrounds up for success. As Wiley’s exclusive distributor, HMH will support this growth by broadening access to rigorous elective coursework, including providing high schools that previously lacked established AP programs with increased access to high-quality resources, integration support and training, and data and analytics to measure impact.

“Preparing students for the transition to college and careers is more pressing than ever, and we’re excited to partner with Wiley to deliver AP-level learning to many more students across the country,” said Matthew Mugo Fields, General Manager, Supplemental and Intervention Solutions at HMH. “We look forward to working with educators to inspire learners and give them the tools they need to successfully step up to the rigor of college-level work, and to make AP equity a reality.”

“Wiley is thrilled to partner with HMH, a leader in K-12 solutions,” said Tim Stookesberry, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Education at Wiley. “Through HMH’s vast industry reach, we will be able to share Wiley’s world-class content with more classrooms, deliver successful learning outcomes, and help more students reach their full potential.”

Wiley publishes market-leading AP, honors and elective materials for a variety of courses, including, Human Geography, Computer Science, Calculus, Precalculus, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Environmental Science, Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, Statistics, and more.
