Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Launches HMH Audio, In-House Audio Production Studio

NEW YORK – Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books & Media today announced the launch of HMH Audio. The audio imprint will publish audiobook editions of many of HMH’s front list adult and young reader titles along with select backlist, beginning in fall 2019.

Executive Producer Tommy Harron has joined the company to lead this effort, reporting to HMH SVP and Publisher Bruce Nichols. HMH Audio will operate out of a newly-built studio within HMH’s New York City offices at 3 Park Avenue. Among the first titles that the imprint will release are the Best American Short Stories 2019, Tim O’Brien’s Dad’s Maybe Book, and Jami Attenberg’s novel All This Could Be Yours. In total, the company expects to publish approximately 75 audio titles per year.

“It is no secret that the audio market has been growing at an explosive pace, and for some titles it has become the bestselling format,” said Ellen Archer, President of HMH Books & Media. “We are thrilled to enter this market directly and to be able to bring our authors to their audiences across all print and digital formats.”

Harron has spent the past decade at Hachette Audio as an engineer and producer and will initially hire a small team to support the business.
