BOSTON -- Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) today launched Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math, the world's first series of education apps designed with all new features exclusively for Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 8 operating system.
"HMH is proud to offer one of history's most popular educational games through the Windows 8 platform, expanding the reach of this engaging content to children around the world," said Bethlam Forsa, Executive Vice President, Global Content Development for HMH. “For the last three decades, Carmen Sandiego has been helping students master key concepts in math, reading, history and geography across dozens of media and interactive platforms.”
In each of the series' five chapters, the player assumes the role of an ACME Detective Agent who is hot on the trail of Carmen′s henchmen after they steal one of the world′s major landmarks. In order to bring each of the villains to justice, players will be tasked with completing 10 different math puzzles throughout the game.
Designed for students in grades three through six, Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math for Windows 8 is grounded in the same concepts as the company's acclaimed and award-winning math curricula. The series also demonstrates the power and effectiveness of educational gaming by utilizing multiple modalities, motivation and rewards for mastery, and the presentation of learning in an environment that children find familiar and engaging.
Carmen Sandiego was first made famous through the classic computer game, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? in 1985. Since its debut the game has remained enormously successful and transformed itself across several other channels, including television, books, and most recently the Nintendo Wii.
