The Seal of Biliteracy

The Seal of Biliteracy marks students' deep commitments to experiencing the power that proficiency in more than one language brings to their lives—including global awareness, cultural competence, and academic excellence.

HMH celebrates all students who have earned the Seal of Biliteracy. Here are just a few of the thousands who are doing so each year.

  • "Ultimately, I wanted to get to a level of fluency where I could travel to different countries and be able to get around with ease, and I think that the Seal of Biliteracy is a great way to measure that."
  • Andrew, Senior at Oak Park and River Forest High School, Oak Park IL

Russian and English spoken at home. Studied Spanish and French at school.

  • "Being able to communicate with a larger population of people around the world pushed me to understand and perfect my knowledge in Polish and Spanish, and ultimately towards obtaining the Seal of Biliteracy."
  • Marlena, Senior at Jones College Prep High School, Chicago, IL
