BOSTON – Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) today announced the appointment of Dr. Nicole Melander as Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy. Reporting directly to President and CEO Linda Zecher, Dr. Melander will work closely with HMH’s content, marketing, alliances, and technology teams to align digital initiatives across the Company — from the expansion of HMH’s digital partner network to the growth of its social business and collaboration strategy.An accomplished business and academic leader in education and technology, Dr. Melander joins the Company from Achieving the Dream (ATD), a national reform network dedicated to community college student success and completion, where she served as Chief Technology Officer. The nonprofit focuses primarily on helping low-income and minority students earn market-valued credentials. Prior to joining ATD, Dr. Melander held education and technology leadership positions at Deloitte Consulting, Microsoft and Oracle. In the academic world, she taught on the topics of collaboration technology and social media for business at American University where she won the campuswide “Teaching with Technology Award.”

Dr. Melander holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from West Chester University, a Master of Science degree in technical management from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in information technology from George Mason University.
