Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Link to Libraries Partner to Improve Literacy and Learning across New England

Global education leader donates 500 books to further Link to Libraries’ mission to enhance students’ language and literacy skills

BOSTON — June 16, 2010 — Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) donated 500 books to Link to Libraries, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit organization that collects and distributes books to under-funded elementary-school libraries and charities across New England.

“Service — to our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we do business — is among our most important core values,” said Josef Blumenfeld, Senior Vice President of Communications, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. “As a learning company, we especially embrace partnerships like this one that allow us to combine service with the pursuit of literacy and lifelong curiosity.”

“We are deeply grateful to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for their support of our mission,” said Susan Jaye-Kaplan, Co-Founder of Link to Libraries. “Link to Libraries will use the donation of these wonderful books to expand our program’s giving to underserved youth, and also to develop our newest initiatives including Link to Libraries Read Aloud programs for toddlers and elementary-school students.”

HMH donated more than 100,000 books to nationwide schools and organizations in 2009. To commemorate its 178th year, the Company plans to increase that number to 178,000 in 2010.
