Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Makes a Splash in Pre-K Education

BOSTON – Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) today announced its launch of Splash into Pre-K/Un Salto a Pre-K, a research-based program for early learners. The integrated curriculum addresses the changing needs of young children, promoting the idea that learning is fun. Splash uses intentional play and other high-interest activities to engage children while meeting learning goals. The program caters to the growing community of bilingual students with both English and Spanish versions and integrated support for English Language Learners. Splash provides extensive resources for students and teachers, including tracking and assessment tools for monitoring overall student progress.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Splash into Pre-K program promotes significant growth toward early learning and development outcomes for all four-year old children, and in particular for high-need children who require extra support in the Essential Domains of School Readiness. Splash into Pre-K is aligned to key national and state standards including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), HeadStart and Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge. Splash into Pre-K offers parallel literature and scripted instruction in both English and Spanish, as well as adaptations and tips for teaching three-year olds and children with special mobility or cognitive challenges. Splash into Pre-K also offers a comprehensive assessment system covering both screening measures and formative assessment.

“HMH has long understood the vital importance of reaching young learners during this pivotal time in their education and development,” said Mike Lavelle, President, HMH Education Group. “With the increasing demand for proven and innovative pre-K programs that meet newer standards, Splash is yet another significant move in HMH’s mission to provide innovative educational tools. HMH recognizes that when we reach early childhood learners, we raise achievement.”

Splash helps teachers build a community of learners using an integrated child-centered curriculum in English and Spanish. Through comprehensive lessons and high-interest activities, it engages children, while allowing teachers to pick and choose activities depending on an individual child’s interests and needs. The program even includes extensive and fun real-world activities that maximize a child’s experiences with the world around them, as shown in recent early childhood research.
