The Search Is On To Find The Nation’s Best High School Writers

Author:  HMHCo  | 09/07/2016

Spark a StoryHMH is looking for the best high school storytellers in the US and they could be sitting in your classroom! The Spark a Story contest, accepting submissions through October 7, 2016, was created to find and publish the best American high school writers. Have a young writer in mind? Encourage them to submit!

Entries must be original works of fiction, no longer than 5,000 words, and are limited to one per high school student. The HMH editorial team will choose winners based on creativity, originality and overall quality of writing. The winning stories will be published in a special anthology next year.

There are several ways for students to submit:

  • Online at hmhco.com/SparkAStory
  • By completing the entry form and submitting it via email, along with their short story, (in a double-space PDF or Microsoft Word document) to SparkaStory@hmhco.com
  • By completing the entry form and sending it, along with their short story, via US mail to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 222 Berkeley Street, Boston, MA 02116

The next great HMH author could be walking your halls this fall. Let’s help them realize their dream together.

Hi Donna – Thank you for your interest in the Spark a Story contest. At this time, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt does not have a writing contest for middle school students.

Is there a contest similar to this for middle schoolers?
