Developed by HMH teams in the U.S. and Ireland, ScienceFusion is an exciting new resource for learning and teaching elementary and second–level science. Incorporating print and digital components in a parallel path program, ScienceFusion covers all of the key topics in earth, life, physical and natural sciences from pre–school to age 14 (K–8).

ScienceFusion addresses the need to bring science learning to life,” said Michael Muldowney, interim CEO of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. “This first of its kind program integrates the latest digital technology and text solutions to create a personalized experience for each student. Using a combination of simulations, animations and videos, ScienceFusion is the most innovative approach to capture curiosity and enhance any student′s learning experience.”

Designed specifically for today′s digital natives, ScienceFusion promotes 21st century learning skills by providing students with a self–paced, individualized learning experience. This ensures that advanced learners can progress at a pace that keeps them motivated, while learners who struggle can control their progress through content.

Bethlam Forsa, Executive Vice–President, Global Product and Content Development, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt said: “It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award for ScienceFusion. This recognition is a testament to the creativity, dedication, and expertise of the US and Ireland–based teams who brought this exceptional product to market.”

Unlike similar product offerings on the market that are predominantly text–based, ScienceFusion is an internet–driven digital program that combines rich media such as video, animation, high–res imagery, Flash animations, clever sound effects and music stings, to promote an interactive and engaging learning environment. ScienceFusion is being tailored for wider use in US, international, and virtual school markets, with a Spanish version available by the time students report back to school this year.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt was one of only two winners within this popular category in 2011. Selected from over 20 submissions, HMH received the award alongside a combined entry from Intel, Steljes and Edco. To read more about the ICT Excellence Awards, visit www.ictexcellenceawards.ie.
