Boston -- Apr 12th, 2010 -- Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's Riverside Publishing division, known for acclaimed clinical and educational assessment solutions including Edusoft® Assessment Management System and DataDirector™, has partnered with the University of Kansas to distribute Instruct4Success, a research-based instruction system that addresses every stage of the teaching and learning processes.

“We are excited to partner with the University of Kansas to bring this system to educators,” said Jim Nicholson, President of Riverside Publishing. “Instruct4Success helps students develop the critical skills that equip them for academic success and improve their college and career readiness.”

Instruct4Success closes the teaching-testing-instructing loop by adapting to a wide range of classroom situations. Its structure allows educators to pinpoint and assist students in need of enrichment without detracting from the success of the group as a whole. Developed by University of Kansas educators, Instruct4Success blends assessment with instructional framework groups that encompass context, teaching, application, lessons and extension, helping achieve optimal student outcomes in a highly effective and efficient manner.

“Teachers have not been armed with instructional options that enable them to accurately match assessment outcomes to unique student needs. If assessment results don't drive instruction, much of their value is lost,” said Donald D. Deshler, Director for the Center for Research on Learning at the University of Kansas. “The developers of Instruct4Success, Ed Meyen, John Poggio and Diana Greer, have addressed this problem head on and in the process have made an extraordinary instructional breakthrough.”

Instruct4Success also offers more than 275 comprehensive lessons spanning grades 3–12 that are structured to help students internalize new concepts through guided and independent practice as well as open-ended validation questions. Additionally, Instruct4Success provides instant feedback via more than 400 tutorials, allowing educators to provide standards-linked lessons to keep students motivated and on track. The program's flexibility also means that a lack of technology is no longer a barrier to learning; Instruct4Successis just as compatible with chalkboards and handouts as it is with interactive whiteboards.

Currently in use at districts across Kansas with wide success, Instruct4Success takes learning beyond the classroom and closes the critical parental involvement gap. Without assuming that parents remember all of the math lessons of their childhood, Instruct4Success provides structured activities that allow parents to re-enter the learning process in a meaningful way by turning any moment into a teachable moment, harnessing the power of a real-world example.

“Our Center has been fortunate to work with many creative University of Kansas educators who have developed innovative technologies to support teachers, students and parents,” said James Baxendale, Executive Director of the University of Kansas Center for Technology Commercialization. “This partnership validates the significance of these innovations.”
