Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Names Dave West Senior Vice President of Professional Services

Boston -- Jun 8th, 2010 -- Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt today announced that Dave West has joined the Company as Senior Vice President of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Professional Services. The creation of this position reflects Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s further centralization of its service offerings and continued expansion in the areas of professional development and school improvement.

“Dave brings the expertise and strategic insight necessary to advance our Professional Services division,” said Mike Lavelle, K–12 President, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. “With the tremendous success he brought to Staff Development for Educators and The Thomson Corporation, I’m confident that his background in technology and experience in school reform and improvement will further drive the transformation of our Professional Services team.”

Dave most recently served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Staff Development for Educators, a leading provider of K–8 Teacher Professional Development solutions. His leadership of that business included the development and launch of innovative comprehensive training solutions that have rapidly grown to become industry standards in areas like Differentiated Instruction and Singapore Math.

Prior to joining Staff Development for Educators, Dave was President of Thomson Course Technology, a provider of classroom courseware and adult education courses for technology related topics. Dave’s prior experience with The Thomson Corporation provided a unique blend of Professional Publishing, Academic Publishing and Education & Training Services. Dave began his career at KPMG Peat Marwick, where he served as a Senior Tax Specialist and Audit Assistant after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Providence College in Rhode Island.
