Boston -- May 21st, 2010 -- Steven Rattner, author of Overhaul: An Insider’s Account of the Obama Administration’s Emergency Rescue of the Auto Industry (October, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), will discuss his time working with President Obama, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Economic Adviser Larry Summers at BookExpo America’s (BEA) Uptown Stage on Thursday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. He’ll share the stage with Jonathan Alter (author of The Promise: President Obama, Year One) in a session called “Obama’s Book Club.”

In Overhaul, due out in October, Rattner provides a gripping account about how he led the largest restructuring in American history — working against a ticking clock and vocal opposition to keep General Motors (a nightmare of huge proportions) and Chrysler (a company so close to death it was nearly sacrificed) in operation and to save more than a million jobs. He crafts a tightly plotted narrative of political brinkmanship, corporate mismanagement and personalities under pressure in a high-stakes clash between Washington and Detroit.

Go behind the headlines with Rattner at BEA’s Uptown Stage for a fly-on-the-wall look at Obama in his first months of work, under pressure, beginning to govern. Rattner takes us inside the Oval Office to show Obama coping not only with the wreckage of the industry that was once this country’s greatest, but also with the most dangerous and wide-ranging American economic crisis since the Great Depression. Rattner provides a firsthand look at a President still very much under scrutiny during one of the tensest moments in American history.
